Back in 2009, I, Daniel, started Coffee Machines and Beans out of a van in Kiama. I was a one-man show, crisscrossing from Northern Sydney to Cooma, fixing commercial coffee machines and selling coffee.

Long drives, sketchy motels, and the occasional night curled up in the van were my reality. Every spare dollar went into buying machines and spare parts, all with this stubborn dream of opening a showroom. That dream came true in 2012.

The showroom changed everything. I hired a technician to take over the roadwork so I could focus on the shop. It took off, and over the years, we’ve expanded our gear and brought on a small crew, including Jackie—the heart of the place. If you’ve stopped by or called, you’ve probably met her. She’s the one keeping the chaos in check with a smile.

On the coffee side, we started reselling Danes specialty coffee, which taught us a ton. By 2015, we were ready to roast our own, and that’s when Coffee Machines and Beans specialty coffee was born. A year later, we launched Above Ground Coffee Roasters as our premium cafe brand. We’re not about chasing every coffee trend—just the ones that make your cup better.
